Flocabulary is a K-12 online learning platform that teaches vocabulary and core subjects through hip-hop music, videos, and games.
Responsibilities
Working within a team of 8-10 engineers, modernized legacy React components and resolved a large backlog of bugs in the platform's older codebase, and built new frontend components from Figma designs, including a full redesign of the login page. Carried out accessibility work to bring key flows up to WCAG 2.1 AA, testing with screen readers like JAWS and NVDA alongside manual and AI-assisted audits. Also optimized database queries, fixing N+1 patterns, adding indexing, slimming payloads, and introducing pagination, which sped up lesson listings across the site.
Key achievement
Helped build two brand-new game modes for the platform, owning the frontend implementation and state management with Redux.
